Today for AHM we recognize Portia White. Portia May White, singer & teacher from Truro, was the first Black Canadian concert singer to win international acclaim. She was also the first African Nova Scotian to perform for Queen Elizabeth II. The Portia White Prize is the largest prize of its type awarded by the African Nova Scotian Music Association.
