Red Dress Day is held every May 5th, is a National Day of remembrance and activism honouring the lives of Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls, and Two-Spirited People. We will read a poem in honour.
Red Dresses in the Wind
Red dresses sway where voices were lost,
Carried by winds that remember the cost.
Each thread a name, each stitch a cry,
For those who vanished, and those who died.
They walked this earth with sacred grace,
Now empty footsteps we can’t replace.
Mothers, sisters, daughters too,
Taken too early—without a due.
The silence is heavy, but we won't stand still,
Justice and healing must rise from will.
We hang these gowns so truth is seen,
Bright against the sky, blood-red and keen.
You are not forgotten, you are not gone,
Your spirit is mighty, your memory strong.
We lift your stories, loud and clear,
In every red dress, we hold you near.
In honour of Red Dress Day we will play the Honour Song, please rise if you are able to.
