Juneteenth in Canada will be observed today. While not a national holiday in Canada, it is a day of commemoration and reflection on the end of slavery in the United States, a significant event in the history of the Black community. In Canada, Emancipation Day, which commemorates the abolition of slavery in the British Empire, is recognized on August 1st.
