Week TWO - Website: elj.hrc.ca

We acknowledge that we are in Mi’kma’ki, which is the unceded traditional ancestral territory of the Mi’kmaq people.

From Ms. McKay and Ms. Crocker:

Hey Ellenvale it's Pride Month!
We have lots of books with LGBTQ characters as the heroes and heroines. If you want to check out a new read, visit your ELA teacher or Ms. Jackson in the library. You might want to start with Lily and Dunkin--it's an awesome book.

The Woodlawn Public Library is hosting a Connect the Dots on June 29. This is a virtual event where LGBTQ+ youth and their friends drop in, make connections and have fun. Please visit the Library website for more information.

From Ms. Jackson:
All books are due back on Friday, June 18. They can be dropped off in the box outside the library at any time. Thank you.

2020-21 Yearbooks:
Some students placed an order for their Yearbook but have not yet paid for it (see list below). Please be sure to pay for your Yearbook by Thursday, June 17, otherwise it will be offered up to someone else who missed the order deadline, but is on a waiting list for a Yearbook.

Acknowledging Mr. Jeff Lewis’s career and retirement:
You are invited to contribute to a gift to honour and appreciate Mr. Lewis’ contribution and dedication to education. Mr. Lewis retired on May 1. Please drop off donations to the school (cheques made out to Ellenvale Junior High School). We will add your name to the card. We are hoping to gift him a memorable getaway to Trout Point Lodge (https://www.troutpoint.com/)

Planning for 2021-22 School Year:
If you know your child will not be returning to Ellenvale next year because of a move or transfer, please let the office know (435-8420) or email jcottingham@hrce.ca.

Bussing for 2021-22:
If you think your child may qualify for bussing next year (this particularly applies to grade 9 students going into Grade 10), please ensure your primary address is up–to-date in PowerSchool as the bus companies draw their information from PowerSchool. Please call the office at 435-8420 if you need to update or verify your address.

Robotics Club – Meets Thursdays at 3pm in the Learning Commons

IBM Steam Camp Opportunity:
IBM STEM for Girls Program is pleased to collaborate with Industry Partners (ATCO, Telus, Fortinet, Palo Alto Networks and Security and others), to provide students with an opportunity to participate in STEAM activities. The goal is to help build students’ confidence and expand their knowledge around the STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math) field through fun and engaging workshops.

Sessions will take place through a FREE virtual National STEAM Summer camp, which will be hosted on WebEx for the week of July 19th-23rd. Each day will dedicate a few hours in which IBM and other partners will facilitate interactive activities such as: digital art, building chatbots, creative technical writing, cyber security, making ice cream, and lots more. All students, entering grades 7-12, will have the option to choose from a variety of sessions and will be able to choose to attend as many as they would like. Each activity will have recommended ages and supplies required (where applicable).
For more details, including how to register, see this flyer.
