Ellenvale - Oct 29 Announcements

Announcements Thursday, October 29, 2020
We acknowledge that we are in Mi’kma’ki, which is the traditional ancestral territory of the Mi’kmaq people.

From Mr. Lewis:
October is Mi’kmaq History Month. The purpose is to promote public awareness about the Mi’kmaq culture and heritage to the people of Nova Scotia. Take a look around the school to see the Mi'kmaq History Month poster.

A reminder to students and parents that Public Health Guidelines encourage schools to have students outside as much as possible; this includes during the instructional day and at lunch. It is important for students to be dressed properly for fall and winter weather as we will be spending the majority of lunch hours outside, unless it is otherwise unsafe to do so. EJH will be following the HRCE Wind Chill Protocol to make decisions about when students will be outside. Students are only brought in side if the windchill is more than -21, although we do take into account other weather factors and may choose to bring students in if the weather is really icy/wet/cold. Coats, hats, mittens, proper foot wear and gloves are recommended. Please contact the school if you are having difficulty with winter gear as we have some articles of clothing available.

During entry to the building, please remember to line up in orderly fashion, masks on, social distancing in place to be able to re-enter the building – masks have to be worn outside when you are not 2 meters apart.

More friendly Homeroom competition for homeroom points. Homeroom teachers, please report to me the numbers of students participating
TODAY "orange and black or Halloween clothes" day.
Friday "costume day" (no face coverings/masks besides your Covid mask and no weapons in costumes)

Robotics Club meets today at 3pm in the Learning Commons.

Parents/Guardians:
The new bussing distance for Ellenvale is 2.2km. If you live less than 2.2km from Ellenvale, students are walkers. However, you can apply for an unassigned seat on a bus by calling the HRCE Bus Planner at 431-4723. You will need your child’s student ID number which you can find on PowerSchool or you can call the school office.

Please regularly check your child for nits or head lice. Children with nits or head lice must receive the first of two treatments before returning to school. Please notify the school if your child has head lice or nits. A copy of the NS Department of Health and Wellness pamphlet, How to Prevent, Find and Treat Head Lice can be found at:
